Her heart beat as if she ran a marathon as the door closed behind her. Not taking anything for granted she checked her watch. 10 minutes earlier than she wanted to be. She looked up and saw the large mirror reflecting her image. A quick hand to her hair to smooth down her long blonde locks and she shrugged, why hadn’t she thought to put lipstick on? Who was she kidding, she never wore lipstick. Why try to be someone else at this moment? She was nervous enough.

A reader since birth she always delightedly talked about her current faves and not so faves every chance she could get. This weaving in and out the pros and the cons of every book she ever read into every conversations had lead her to this place. She swallowed hard and continued up the stairs to the door she was looking for.

It read: Modern Mrs Darcy, home of the What Should I Read Next podcast.

She had listened to the What Should I Read Next podcast for over a decade. Anne, the host,  had become quite the celebrity in the book world over the time she spent giving people recommendations after listening to them talk about their current reading habits and what they dislike or like about them. Anne had a wonderful knack in reading people and often suggested just the right book to just the right person at the time in the their life.  The What Should I Read Next podcast was a weekly show that was as vital as coffee to some people now that it had been in production for over 10 years. Anne had certainly found her sweet spot in life.

Staring at that door she took a deep breath and pushed it open. She was honored to be guest number 527.

** no I am not really guest 527 or any number for that matter.. but wouldn’t it be cool?**

readers who listen.

I’m not one of those places that you go to on the internets to find out the latest and the greatest. Another Happy Day simply doesn’t exist to share with you the how tos and the where to gos.. unless it does. Simply because I hate putting rules on myself… or I have rules and I like to bend them. I don’t know. You pick. So here’s one of those posts that bends the rules or breaks them depending on your mood.

Every year for Valentines day my Lead renews my Audible membership and I get a whole new year to enjoy any book my heart desires. I would say I go in spurts in listening to them, but it beats paying those library fines I always seems to acquire. The only thing this list has in common is that I liked the narrator in each book. The reader of book that I’m going to spend 7 plus hours together needs to be amazing, engaging and their cadence needs to be spot on. This is probably my biggest filter when it comes to the reading of audio books.

I’m surprised I picked up Me Before You. I often don’t read things that are hyped by the media in protest, but I did. A delightful read that I had to sit in my driveway to finish because I was bawling so hard. It made me question a ton of of “what ifs” in my own head. Overall, it was engaging and delightful. I hope the movie doesn’t ruin it.

Anne Lamont comes to me as a recommended writer. I wish I could say I was a fan, and maybe I was on the way to becoming one until she tweeted that she “loved Joe Biden.”  during the Oscars. I had known already that we disagreed on basic things like faith and life, but loving Joe just threw me over. I will probably never read anything from her again. I’m totally shallow like that. True Story.

Ruta’s book, Salt to the Sea… oh my. It was the best book I read all week. Cried. Hoped. Loved. Cheered. Laughed and then Cried. I didn’t like how this ended, but then again I don’t see how it could have ended any different. It is a young adult book that develops characters, one of my biggest pet peeve about YA. I saw the dead. I felt the sorry. I wished for the love. I touched that crocheted pink hat. I couldn’t recommend this book more.

I picked the Broken Wheel book simply because it was based in Iowa. A fiction story I wasted 15 hours of my time at. It had everything on the cover that I love. A traveler out of her country. Someone dies.  Then the whole town gathers around a book store to save the town.. or each other.  It really is a long read, but it kept my attention so I kept going.

Jen Wilkin’s book Women of the Word is simply amazing. I love her. I love her walk with Jesus. I love her love of the Bible. Her methods are founded in truth and practicality. She spurs you on to actually use your own mind to think, not to just take teachers and books at their word. I love acquiring new skills and techniques. However, I would really like to own this book to underline and re read portions quickly. I think I picked this up right after I read Broken Wheel.. I needed to wash my ears out with god stuff.

Here’s why I don’t ever write posts like this.. I don’t know how to end them. Sorry.

the end.
